Earth Root Farm, formerly Dancing Dog Farm, began as many small farms do - with a few people who had a dream and a desire to bring healthy, nutrient dense, and sustainably cultivated produce to their local community.

Located on 15 acres in Ridgefield, CT, we have one acre in production, growing a wide variety of common and unique vegetables for our wonderful CSA members and local chefs throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties. We are sincerely dedicated to sustainable growing practices that are not only good for us, but good for the environment as well:

  • We will never use GMO seeds or synthetic insecticides, herbicides or fertilizers.

  • We only use OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) certified inputs in our garden.

  • Though we aren’t certified organic, we often meet and exceed organic standards.

  • We pay close attention to building healthy soils through crop rotation, using compost, cover cropping,  balancing minerals, and reducing tillage.  Nutritious food begins at ground level.

  • We provide habitat and plant beneficial flowers to support pollinators, which are an essential part of our ecosystem and food web.

  • We only sell locally, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the food you receive from our farm.

  • We feel that it is vitally important to pass on the knowledge and skills of sustainable agriculture to others. We encourage visitors and volunteers to join us here on the farm to learn more about what we do and why it is so important.

The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”
— Wendell Berry
